The Bailiwick of Guernsey Digitisation Partnership was established in 2023 to make a wide range of Guernsey’s family history resources available online.

The work of the Partnership is overseen by a Steering Group, chaired by Steve Foote (CEO, Priaulx Library), with representatives from the following organisations:

The Project

In January 2024, following a thorough selection process, we signed an agreement with Findmypast to digitise these records and make them available online.

The digitised records include records from:

  • Methodist Church registers
  • Catholic Church registers
  • Sark registers
  • Alderney registers
  • Douzaines of St Peter Port, Vale, St Martins and St Pierre du Bois.

Full details of all the records that have been digitised can be found here.

Thank You

We would also like to thank the following organisations from whom we have received invaluable assistance:

  • Constables of St Peter Port, Vale, St Martins and St Pierre du Bois – for permission to digitise the 1827 Census.
  • The Methodist Church in Guernsey – for permission to digitise their registers.
  • The Catholic Church in Guernsey – for permission to digitise their registers.
  • Société Sercquaise and States of Alderney – for their help in arranging digitisation of registers for their islands.
  • Members of the Family History Section of La Société Guernesiaise who over the years have compiled accurate and comprehensive indexes to many of the island’s records of births, deaths and marriages – which have been incorporated into Findmypast’s indexes.
  • Law Officers of the Crown – who have advised on contractual issues as well as public records, copyright and data protection considerations.
  • Social Investment Fund – who have funded a project support role and this website
  • Visit Guernsey – for getting behind the project as part of promoting the fascinating history of the Bailiwick.
  • Specsavers – for allowing us to promote the new service at the Tea Dance and Hangar Ball.
  • Max Communications – who have spent the last year on-island scanning all the registers for Findmypast.
